When you leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string (hash) from your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it (see Gravatar’s privacy policy here). After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible publicly in the context of your comment.

Media

Avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) to protect your privacy. Other visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.

If you comment on our site, you can opt-in to save your name, email, and website in cookies, which are for your convenience so you don’t have to fill in your details again. These cookies last for one year. We set temporary cookies to check if your browser accepts cookies and additional cookies when you log in or edit an article. Data Retention

We retain comments and their metadata indefinitely. For registered users, we also store the personal information provided in your user profile. All users can manage their personal information at any time (username cannot be changed), and administrators can also see and edit that information.

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including data provided by you. You can also request the erasure of your personal data; this excludes data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
